A place in the middle of the ocean that is made entirely out of plastic waste that humans have created... It’s said to be about as big as the state of Texas, but there’s really no way to tell exactly how big it is. I always kind of wondered how that was even possible, but then I read some of the facts about plastic waste we’ve created.....
“8.3 billion metric tons of plastic have been manufactured since mass production of the material began 60 years ago. Just 12% has been destroyed.”
“91% of plastic is not recycled. 6.3 billion metric tons has become plastic waste. 79% is littering the environment, much of it in the oceans”
Well, that right there kind of explains that.... but the next fact makes you go, “Oh, that sounds like a short term problem... Nothing to worry about, AT ALL!”
“400 years is how long it takes plastic to degrade.”
Yep...that’s how long it takes this material to degrade naturally.... And much of the plastic we’ve created is now littering and damaging the wildlife that lives in the Ocean.
Just another problem that people created in the 20th century that needs fixing in the 21st century.
It’s unreal to me how short term people think, SCREW the oceans! As long as we have cheap containers for the sodas we simply don’t need. Everything will work out....
Hope you enjoyed those few fun facts, and had a great week.
Here’s a piece I added a few layers to today. Just the fine details and some color now and she’ll be polished off. Enjoy!
